SPD #30(?) - Wormhole (...the hell?!)

So, some Canadian ABC affiliate (or something) slipped up and accidentally aired 'Wormhole,' this last weekend, about 7 episodes ahead of when it was supposed to. (Or at least, going by alternating assistant directors or something I means we think it's #30 or #36, thanks Jesse!)

Wormhole is (apparently) the second of two teamups between Dino Thunder and SPD. (The prior involving the core trio of DT being pulled to the future, this one involves the SPD visiting the past.)

So, what've we missed in the intervening 7-13 episodes? Swat, Battlizer, A-Squad, and another teamup. Oh, and Mora's back. And Gruumm makes explicit what was fairly clear early on but articulated so messily we weren't sure- he's a lackey for someone else.
Well SHIT. Way to rob Gruumm of what little dignity/threat he never had.
I can but HOPE that since Gruum is the leader of the Troobian military, not the Troobian empire, that this means his master is the Troobian Emperor, since that revelation would at least explain WHAT A TROOBIAN IS.
That, or they bust the Maligore suit out of storage. Which explains nothing, but is so shiny-happy starry-eyed that fan's wont' notice it's a cop-out.
(Of course, given that the Maligore suit is made of more flexible material than the standard Sentai suits, it may have rotted...)

Man... this was a shitty teamup. I'm not sure what it was that pissed me off. The 2 minutes TOTAL focus the DTeens got, the 20 minute extended fight sequence, the unnamed monsters, the utter pointlessness, the no-placement-in-continuity...
No, it was the Orangehead fights. In the middle of a teamup, Jack and Bridge go off to both have separate 2-minute Orangehead fights. Alone. Without taking a DT Ranger with them, despite having already hooked up with 'em.
They shot pickup to replace some shots in both of these fights! Would it have KILLED them to shoot some US inserts? The two rangers standing together, stock of the DT's attacks vs. Krybot being hit? THREE QUARTERS OF JACK'S BATTLE GOT RESHOT TO AVOID THE JP PLOT IT WAS ATTACHED TO. Just-- the hell?

The big fight... was boring.
It reminded me of the big fight at the end of the Ninja Storm teamup (from which I presume Bruce took his cues) except without the more interesting teamups. NS's was also the climax of the buildup for the previous episode and a half, with multiple confrontations and personal dynamics and... stuff. Wormhole... skips all that, has the DT meet SPD... than 2 random Sentai fights, then a big skirmish. Oh, and Zeltrax submits to Gruumm with about 2 words exchanged...
It was very pretty. I was bored and started paging through my comic books waiting for the story to resume.

...then they wiped everyone's memories, (except Tommy) including the team going back to the future- who remembered the previous encounter.
Wait- what?
That's... what? No, seriously, WHAT?
There needs to be a stronger term than 'nonsense' to describe that. I hereby coin the term 'anti-sense' and apply it to SPD. When sense and anti-sense collide, plot is annihilated.
Doggie wiping his own memory was a cute scene, but-- wait- WHAT? Seriously- WHAT?

Just so fucking... wow.

I'm not appalled any more, I'm just baffled. Such a weird episode.
To clarify, sometimes I used 'weird' in a good way, praising an episode for being out-there and trying something new? I'm not doing that. Weird in a weird, faintly uncomfortable way.

Also, the treatment of the DT in general was ass. So, yeah.
Pretty good voice match on JDF though.
