12:35 pm - Kitchen Sink Post

I mis-set my alarm last night and woke up just as class was starting. Now, it's a 45 minute commute to scale on a normal day, 35 with no traffic. Mapquest likes to claim (in its cracked-out way) that this route is 24 minutes- you know, if you had no stop lights and went full speed the entire time.
I've been trying out GOFLOWOLFOG recently, so I decided to hand it a challenge. I pulled out of my driveway at 9:40 for my 9:30 class. "Do yo think you can get me there by 10:00?" Patently ridiculous!
I hit my exit at 9:59. My final commute time was 24 minutes... including finding a parking space. I did hit slow-downs and stoplights on the way and never exceeded the speed limit.
No, I have no idea how that works either.

One of the favorite things about my college is that it regularly books entertainment for the lunch hour in the theater attached to the cafeteria. So after being late for class, I wandered down to the sounds of Beat Poetry. The Minnesota Spoken Word Association was doing a program for the students on the theme of African American pride. There was a great energy to it, and it was a lot of fun to be in a room full of white students chanting "Blackness" when the speaker on stage prompts them.
Plus there was some interesting content about revolution and empire, context and value, and some reasonably interesting questions about what the systematic removal of the best and the brightest for generations did to Africa.
(Yesterday was Chinese dancers for the Year of the Pig.)

There's a Subway on my way to school, and I frequently hit it rather than be stuck with cafe food. On Monday I went in and discovered they were having computer problems and couldn't sell me anything. They were poking the computer with tech support for a few minutes, and I stuck around to see if it'd resolve itself. It didn't. Their response- "Well it's you, so what do you want? You can just pay us back tomorrow, we trust you to remember what it is."
Sweet.
